(KRON) -- Police arrested an individual armed with a knife in Santa Rosa Saturday morning, according to the Santa Rosa Police Department (SRPD). At approximately 11:09 a.m., officers responded to a report of an adult male allegedly using a large knife to cut trees along the west side of the road, n ear the 300 block of Fulton Road. The male was carrying a large, fixed-blade knife and making stabbing motions in the air and at times, concealing the knife on his person, SRPD noted. Photo courtesy of the Santa Rosa Police Department Officers said they remained with the individual attempting to contain his movements and limit public access to the area while utilizing de-escalation techniques, providing verbal commands in both English and Spanish, repeatedly instructing the male to drop the weapon. The subject refused to comply with verbal directives and continued to walk away from the scene while brandishing the knife, according to SRPD. The male then made a sudden lunging movement toward one of the officers with the knife. In response to the threat, an officer deployed a Conducted Energy Weapon (CEW), or a taser, to safely immobilize the subject. The male, identified as Martin Nunez Rodriguez, 38, of Santa Rosa, was taken into custody. Officers searched Rodgriguez and reported finding suspected methamphetamine. Rodriguez had an active, do-not-cite arrest warrant, according to SRPD. He was booked into the Sonoma County Jail on the following charges: Assault with a deadly weapon other than a firearm Illegally carrying a concealed stabbing weapon Felony resisting an executive officer Possession of suspected methamphetamine Violation of pretrial supervision Do-not-cite misdemeanor warrant SRPD reported that no officers or bystanders were injured during the encounter. ...read more read less
