(KRON) -- An online backlash has erupted over an upcoming appearance from a punk singer with a past association with the Proud Boys at a club in the North Bay. Michale Graves, the former frontman of iconic horror punk outfit, The Misfits, is scheduled to play at Buddy's Music Office on Jan. 31. Gra ves, whose real name is Michael Emanuel, rose to fame fronting the late '90s resurrection of The Misfits, stepping in for founding frontman Glenn Danzig. Graves, however, has a well-documented past association as a supporter of violent, far-right extremist group, the Proud Boys. What is a ‘trad son’ and why does this Bay Area city have a lot of them? Since his five-year stint with the band came to an end, he's released several albums as a solo artist. However, he's made more headlines for his political affiliations. A vocal supporter of President Donald Trump who has attended pro-Trump rallies, Graves testified on behalf of five Proud Boys involved in the January 6 insurrection. Graves' far-right political affiliations have led to several of his gigs being canceled across the country. An appearance in San Antonio in April of last year was greeted with protests even after being moved from the original venue after a backlash. Another show that was set to take place in Pittsburgh, PA in February of last year was canceled after a backlash. In the Bay Area, calls have surfaced online to protest the Novato venue where Graves is due to perform. On Reddit, one post called for protests outside the venue on the day of and days leading up to the show. "Known Proud Boy supporter Michale Graves is scheduled to perform at Buddy's Auto in Novato on Saturday, Jan. 31st," the post read. "Let them know Racism and Fascism aren't welcome in our community." The post called for protesters to meet at a nearby intersection and "Bring your signs." Buddy's Music Office, the venue where the show is due to take place, responded to the criticism on Instagram, saying, "If you can't separate the art from the artist, that's fine, but please don't harass others or leave false reviews etc. Yaall (sic) are better than than. Cry in your own houses and let others enjoy the love of music in theirs. Cheers my friends." As of Friday Jan. 16, it appears Graves' appearance at the venue is still set to go ahead. ...read more read less
