Over 200 flights were delayed at O'Hare International Airport as snowfall made for hazardous conditions Friday morning. A ground stop at O'Hare was lifted at 8 a.m. and over 220 flights were delayed as of 9:45 a.m., according to the Federal Aviation Administration. Much of the metro area received ro ughly half an inch of snow, according to preliminary counts from the National Weather Service, but snow was expected to periodically fall throughout the day."It's basically just an upper level kind of disturbance that has kind of just been meandering out of Canada toward the Great Lakes," said Zachary Yack, a meteorologist with the weather service. "We'll basically be trapped beneath its its area here, basically through the weekend."Friday's high was expected to be around 35 degrees before dropping into the teens Friday night, according to Yack.
