Adams Morgan: Ubiquitous Boston-born bakery Tatte opens its latest location on Thursday, January 22, bringing the Northwest neighborhood a new spot for breakfast, brunch, pastries, and coffee inside a former Bank of America. 1835 Columbia Road NW
Alexandria, Virginia: Fast-casual California Fish Grill, the faraway fast-casual that touts a “100-percent sustainable” seafood mantra, debuted its second Virginia location on Monday, January 12. Made-to-order in bowls, tacos, salads, and grilled plates showcase charbroiled Atlantic salmon, branzino, and wild-caught rockfish. Founded in 1998, California Fish Grill maintains over 60 locations across California, Nevada, and Arizona, and made its East Coast debut last fall in Fairfax, Virginia. The menu sticks to standards from the Monterey Bay Aquarium Seafood Watch program. 7003A Manchester Boulevard, Alexandria, Virginia
Anacostia: Elias Taddesse, the celebrated Ethiopian chef behind Shaw’s Mélange and Doro Soul Food, just debuted DaBo Burger inside the new flagship of Atlas Bridge District Brewery Tap Room. Named for the Amharic word for “bread,” DaBo draws from his fine dining background with house-made milk buns finished with pearl sugar. Eater DC’s 2021 Chef of the Year’s four opening burgers are influenced by a pain au lait, a favorite snack from his culinary school cafe, and there are also milkshakes in the mix to go along with Atlas’s popular pours like a Ponzi IPA. The first 25 guests in line on Thursday, January 15, get free hand-cut beef tallow fries with the purchase of a burger. 600 Howard Road SE
Cleveland Park: Cork Wine Bar, the Logan Circle standby for Old World wines and avocado toast for nearly 20 years, added a follow-up location on Thursday, January 8. This pared-down version features a street-level wine bar and market, along with a room on the mezzanine fit for wine classes, tastings, and private events. The 20-seat setup offers 15 by-the-glass wine options spanning sparkling, white, red, rosé, orange, and cider categories. There’s also light bites like tinned fish and a retail selection of around 350 bottles that can be sipped on-site or taken home. Co-owners Khalid Pitts and Diane Gross have a Spring Valley retail shop inside Pizzeria Paradiso, but Cleveland Park marks its second standalone location. 3504 Connecticut Avenue NW
Columbia Heights: There’s a new Mexican spot in town: El Jardin. Open since early January, the restaurant replaces once-promising Cinco Soles with a similar menu full of ceviche, guac, tacos, burritos, fajitas, and enchiladas. The space was previously home to Italian-themed Ossobuco prior to Cinco Soles. 3416-3418 11th Street NW
U Street: Pho House debuted in early January with billowing bowls of Vietnamese noodle soups, banh mi sandwiches, egg rolls, and boba tea. The mini-chain has another location in Shaw. 925 U Street NW
