Coming off a heartbreaking loss versus the Minnesota Timberwolves, the Spurs traveled to Oklahoma City to take on the Thunder for the fourth time this season. This matchup ended up being the most physical game between both teams, with the Spurs battling throughout the first half and trailin g only by 3 at halftime. However, the third quarter was a hailstorm by OKC. The Spurs allowed them to go on multiple unanswered double-digit runs, and the silver and black were trailing by 19 at the end of the third. There was an attempt at a comeback with the Spurs going on a 14-2 run; however, they were unable to cut the deficit to single digits. The Spurs were handed their first loss by OKC 119-98. Stephon Castle dropped a near triple-double: 20 points, eight assists, and seven rebounds to go along with a steal. He shot just under 50% for the game and turned the ball over five times. Despite the shortcomings, Steph’s performance reignited his confidence and determination to drive to the paint and be a playmaker. His defense remains solid, as he fights through screens and defends every team’s best guard. CLEAR THE LANE! Steph drives in for the wide-open two-handed jam! The Thunder made it a point to put as many bodies on Wemby as possible. Wemby was pushed, shoved, and even injured multiple times throughout the game. Despite all the extra physicality, Wemby powered through each setback and played 28 minutes. The minutes restriction is still in place, but the severity seems to have lessened since he re-entered the starting lineup. The most important factor is that his confidence has not wavered, and he does not plan to crumble. POSTER ALERT! Vic powers through Chet Holmgren and posterizes him with the left hand! KJ from the corner 👌📺 @NBAonNBC pic.twitter.com/AUQrby3Gnq— San Antonio Spurs (@spurs) January 14, 2026 De’Aaron Fox dropped 14 points, five rebounds, five assists, and a steal. Except for his performance against Boston, Fox has struggled throughout the past week. The supermax guard is shooting 40% from the field and shooting just under 14% from three in the last five games. The unusual part of this game is that he only attempted nine shots. He averages just under 16 attempts per game. OKC’s defense is elite, but he dropped 29 points on them on Christmas Day. Fox is simply in a shooting slump, and the star veteran will look to kick it back in high gear. Dime dropper! Fox’s shifty dribbling allows him to get into the paint past Shai Giligeous-Alexander and he throws it up for Luke Kornet to slam it home! Luke dropped eight points, eight rebounds, two steals, and an assist in 20 minutes off the bench. LUKE OOP 🙌📺 @NBAonNBC🌟 https://t.co/frD28T3bmx pic.twitter.com/SYERq7wz8k— San Antonio Spurs (@spurs) January 14, 2026 Harrison Barnes dropped two points, an assist, and a block. In January, HB is shooting 31% from the field and 21% from three. This shooting slump has now lasted for a little over two weeks. Something needs to change: either HB continues to try and shoot out of this slump, or the Spurs may explore trading for a startable power forward. Nonetheless, HB is a solid veteran who hustles on the fastbreak to disrupt Alex Caruso’s layup attempt. That HB hustle 👏📺 @NBAonNBC🌟 https://t.co/frD28T3bmx pic.twitter.com/a9SsHf2U06— San Antonio Spurs (@spurs) January 14, 2026 This was one of the rare blow-out losses of the season. OKC finally got the upper hand after three straight losses. They simply out-physicaled the silver and black on both ends. Albeit the strategy itself was somewhat nuanced, as they dared referees to call hand-checking fouls (especially on Wemby). The Spurs look to regroup after this two-game skid by returning home to the Frost Bank Center for three games. Hopefully, Devin Vassell returns for one of those matchups. Finally, here are the full game highlights. The Spurs return home to take on the Milwaukee Bucks this Thursday at 7:00 P.M. (CST) on FDSN-SW. ...read more read less
