John Blackwell drilled a 3-pointer at the buzzer to give Wisconsin a 78-75 win over Minnesota on Tuesday night in the Twin Cities. The Badgers led by three with under 12 seconds to go and had Nolan Winter at the free throw line shooting two. But the junior missed both free throws, allowing the Goph ers a chance to tie. They did just that with a moon ball from Cade Tyson with just less than five seconds left. Then it was Blackwell time, with the guard dribbling up the left side of the court and pulling up from just outside the 3-point line. His shot went through just as the buzzer sounded, giving the Badgers their 10th straight win over the Gophers. JOHN BLACKWELL AT THE BUZZER. Braeden Carrington, a Minnesota native and a former member of the Gophers, poured in a career-high 21 points, including seven 3-pointers. That latter number is tied for the third-most in school history. Winter, another Minnesota product, had a double double with 12 points and 11 rebounds. Wisconsin trailed by as many as 11 in the second half before finding its range from beyond the arc. The Badgers went 10-for-18 from 3 after the break, with Blackwell and Carrington accounting for nine of them. Greg Gard’s crew shot 44% (29-for-66) from deep the last two games, including 57.1% (20-35) in the second half. The Gophers got 20 points and eight rebounds from Jaylen Crocker-Johnson, while Tyson had 14 points and five rebounds. The Badgers have now won three straight games and improved to 4-2 in Big Ten play. They will welcome Rutgers to the Kohl Center on Saturday. ...read more read less
