INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Dawn Jackson Blatner, a registered dietitian nutritionist and former head dietitian for the Chicago Cubs, has partnered with nine-time Olympic gold medalist Katie Ledecky and Eggland’s Best to promote healthier eating habits in 2026.
The pa
rtnership aims to help people achieve their New Year’s resolutions by offering tips for smart meal prep and encouraging sustainable, healthy eating habits. Blatner said motivation begins in the grocery store, with a focus on athlete-tested meals and snacks designed to help people properly fuel their bodies.
Blatner promotes her “5-4-3-2-1” grocery shopping plan, which encourages shoppers to buy five colorful fruits and vegetables, four protein sources such as eggs and yogurt, three healthy carbohydrates, two healthy fats and one dessert. “We’re only as healthy as our last trip to the grocery store,” Blatner said, emphasizing the importance of balance.
The initiative also introduces the concept of “train your plate,” which encourages prioritizing protein, colorful produce and healthy carbohydrates for energy. “What you put on your plate can help you feel strong and energized,” Blatner said, noting the connection between nutrition and performance.
Blatner also shared simple meal prep strategies, advising against overcomplicated planning. “Do not make it traumatic; keep it simple,” she said. One of her go-to options is protein pancake bowls made with eggs, yogurt, oats and fruit, providing a high-protein breakfast ideal for busy mornings.
She also recommends preparing fitness snack packs with eggs, cheese, whole-grain pretzels and fruit to prevent energy crashes. “We don’t want to be hangry,” Blatner said.
The Eggland’s Best Champion Sweepstakes runs through March 10, 2026, and offers participants a chance to win a $5,000 grand prize, merchandise signed by Ledecky and other prizes. Blatner said the sweepstakes supports the initiative’s mission of helping families “eat healthier like a champion, all starting with a better egg.”
