(KRON) -- A man riding a bicycle was struck and killed by a SMART train in Santa Rosa Monday morning. According to the Santa Rosa Police Department, a report regarding a collision between a SMART train and a man on a bike came in around 10:27 a.m. on the south side of the train tracks on Piner Road. Santa Rosa PD personnel, along with fire and medical personnel were dispatched to the scene. The bicyclist was pronounced dead. Motorcyclist killed in early Monday crash in East Bay Santa Rosa PD Traffic Team investigators determined the man was riding his bicycle west on Piner on the south side of the tracks when he was hit by the train traveling south. Officials said it appears that all train warning signals were functioning properly at the time. SMART officials also responded and assisted passengers. None of the train's five passengers or two crew members were injured, according to SRPD. Vehicle traffic on Piner Road was not impacted, but the train tracks were closed for around three hours during the investigation. Police are still trying to identify the bicyclists who did not have identification. Once the man's identity is known, it will be released pending notification of next of kin.
