The 49ers sustained another serious setback, as star tight end George Kittle suffered a right Achilles injury in the second quarter of Sunday’s NFC Wild Card Game against the Philadelphia Eagles at Lincoln Financial Field. The 49ers ruled Kittle out just before halftime. Kittle suffered the injury while getting tackled on a 6-yard reception from quarterback Brock Purdy. Coach Kyle Shanahan, speaking to reporters after the game, confirmed that Kittle indeed suffered a torn Achilles. “The trainers knew before the cart came out and got word to me in the headset. Yes, a torn Achilles,” Shanahan said. Kittle missed time this season due to separate hamstring and left ankle injuries, but this one is much more serious.
