Mayor Zohran Mamdani’s administration announced Sunday that the city will complete a stalled street redesign. It extends double bus lanes on Madison Ave. from 42nd street south to 23rd street. The Dept. of Transportation says the project will make buses faster and more reliable for 92,000 dail y local and express bus riders, and it will support the MTA’s Congestion Pricing Program by making it easier to commute to Manhattan’s core without a car. “On nearby Fifth Avenue, a similar design led to real improvements,” said Transportation Commissioner Mike Duffy. “Local bus speeds increased by up to 12% and express bus speeds by as much as 20%. That’s meaningful time back in riders’ daily lives, and that’s what we expect to deliver here.” The city expects the re-design to be done this year.
