DENVER Police in Denver made an arrest after shots were fired at officers during an unrelated traffic stop that wounded a bystander in the leg late Saturday night. The incident did not injure or strike any officers.Police said
the incident began with a traffic stop in the 1300 block of N. Logan Street, during which someone threw a rock at a patrol car and then fled.Soon after, shots were fired at officers, who took cover but did not return fire, police said.Police said gunfire grazed a bystander, a man detained from the vehicle stop, who was hospitalized with minor injuries.The rock-thrower an adult male was taken into custody for unrelated warrants during the traffic stop. Police clarified that the rock-thrower is a relative of the man who was detained from the vehicle stop, though the specific relationship was not detailed.Police have not confirmed if the rock-thrower and the shooter are the same individual or separate people. They have also not specified if the shooter intentionally targeted anyone.The shooting drew a large police response, leading to a shelter-in-place order and extensive road closures in the area. A police helicopter assisted with the investigation.Denver7's Maggie Bryan spoke to a man who lives nearby, who described the chaotic scene."I went outside and immediately saw over a dozen police officers, all with their weapons drawn, on a certain apartment complex across the street," Cody Westfall said.
