Protests continue in San Jose after deadly Minneapolis ICE shooting
Jan 09, 2026
Many were protesting ICE in San Jose’s Mexican Heritage Plaza. It comes as new cell phone video of the deadly Minneapolis shooting filmed by the ICE officer reveals new details.
People said Renee Nicole Good’s name will never be forgotten. Some of the protestors had seen that new video showin
g Good’s last moments before she was shot and killed.
“We think it’s horrific what happened to her, ice is just breaking the law,” said Monica of San Jose.
There’s new cell phone video showing the moments before Good is shot. The video was recorded by Jonathan Ross – the ICE agent who shot her.
Vice president JD Vance said the new video supports the ICE officer’s response, saying, “Watch this, as hard as it is. Many of you have been told this law enforcement officer wasn’t hit by a car, wasn’t being harassed, and murdered an innocent woman. The reality is that his life was endangered and he fired in self-defense.”
The Department of Homeland Security said the ICE officer was injured.
“She put her foot on the gas, and unfortunately, our law enforcement, he followed his training, but he did fire defensive shots,” said Tricia Mclaughlin, Dept. of Homeland Security Assistant Secretary for Public Affairs.
But that’s not the view shared by a lot of people in Good’s neighborhood. And people here in San Jose worry something similar could happen in the city.
‘If it can happen in Minneapolis, it happened in Portland, it can happen here in San Jose and I think we need to let everybody know, our elected officials, and the folks who are running these various govt agencies, we’re not going to tolerate this,” said Leesa Lovelace of San Jose.
The Department of Justice is blocking Minnesota law enforcement from investigating Good’s death.
In an unusual move, the FBI says it will conduct the investigation alone.
Meantime here in the Bay Area, and across the nation, more protests are planned as part of what organizers call a “weekend of outrage.”
