Police chasing a U-Haul van through Northeast Philadelphia on Friday led to several cars, including a police car, being crashed into as well as an officer hurt and a man arrested, according to officials.
This all unfolded around 5:45 p.m. in Northeast Philly on Jan. 9 when police were chasing a
U-Haul van before the pursuit was called off, officials said.
The van continued at a high rate of speed before it crashed into several cars and a marked police car along Harbison Avenue, officials explained.
Officers chased the van again after the crash but the pursuit was called off because it was deemed too dangerous, according to police.
Authorities were able to find the U-Haul at another location in the Northeast but no one was inside, officials said.
But, someone was seen running away who police thought was the suspect, police reported. This person, identified as a man in his 40s, was taken into custody and is expected to be charged with assault on an officer.
The officer who was inside the marked police car that was hit by the U-Haul was treated for minor injuries and is expected to be okay.
The investigation into this incident is ongoing.
