In the new year, Salem’s galleries are celebrating the natural world, the Willamette Valley’s wine history and welcoming an internationally recognized printmaker.See what else is happening in the community this month on our events calendar. Personal Mythology: Color Intaglio At the Salem A rt Association through Feb. 22. The Salem Art Association will be showing work by internationally-known printmaker Yuji Hiratsuka. The artist was born in Osaka, Japan, and has been an art professor at Oregon State University for three decades. He’s had solo shows around the world, including in the British Museum, the Smithsonian’s National Museum of Asian Art and the Tokyo Central Art Museum, according to a gallery description. Hiratsuka will join the art association’s other featured artists on Friday, Jan. 9, at 5:30 p.m. for an opening reception. He will also share insights about his work at an artists’ talk on Saturday, Jan. 31, at 11 a.m.Other shows at the Art Association this month include reflections on consumerism, a newly-acquired oil portrait of a Tanzanian refugee to Salem named Jeanne Kilongo and infused aluminum prints. (SALEM ART ASSOCIATION photo) F Stop: A moment in time At Stefani Art Gallery through Jan. 30 The downtown Stefani Art Gallery will be celebrating “photography’s ability to preserve those fleeting moments and transform them into lasting visual stories.” The show features the work of photographers Kelly James, Dan Dinges, David Scott, Lloyd Kimeldorf and Jose Rios. Hours: Tuesday-Sunday, 12 – 5 p.m. Admission: Free Mid-Willamette Valley Winemaking Heritage At the Willamette Heritage Center through Feb. 13 A pop-up gallery made in partnership with Linfield University’s Oregon Wine History Archive and Salem’s Honeywood Winery will share over 150 years of local wine history, which predates Oregon’s statehood. Charro attire exhibition At the World Beat Gallery through Jan. 23 The World Beat Gallery exhibition of Charro attire, which has roots in Mexican horsemanship, will celebrate craftsmanship and history.
