HENRICO COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- Former Henrico Doctors' Hospital nurse, Erin Strotman, is slated to appear for a plea hearing in mid-January for her case, in which she faces 20 criminal charges after multiple babies at the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) were neglected or injured.
Online court re
cords show that a plea hearing has been scheduled for Strotman in Henrico County Circuit Court on Thursday, Jan. 15.
Strotman faces a total of 20 charges that include felony malicious wounding and felony child abuse.
She is scheduled to then face a two-week jury trial on weekdays from Feb. 9 through Feb. 20, according to court records.
These come following the discovery that nine babies at the Henrico Doctors' Hospital NICU were either intentionally abused and/or neglected over multiple years.
Families of the involved babies have spoken out, including the Hackeys, of Chesterfield County, who told 8News that one of their twins, Noah, had an unexplained fracture to his tibia while in the NICU.
8News also previously spoke with a family with premature twins and the mother of a baby who had every one of his limbs broken.
Families of at least seven neglected or injured babies reached settlements with the hospital in civil cases separate from Strotman's criminal proceedings.
Back in late December 2024, the Henrico hospital temporarily closed its NICU to new admissions after multiple premature babies were found with “unexplainable fractures.”
State agencies like the Virginia Department of Health previously reported that Henrico Doctors’ Hospital failed to protect its NICU patients from this abuse. It was also found to be in violation of several state standards.
