Nearly 92% of Indiana high school seniors graduate in 2025, a record
INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — The Indiana Department of Education said 2025 marks a new state record with nearly 92% of Indiana’s seniors graduating.
But this isn’t just statewide but locally as well. Indianapolis Public Scho
ols stated high school graduation rates surpassed state levels, with about 93% of its high school seniors graduating.
Kelly Durr, executive director of schools for IPS, said, “We’re super proud of our students and our schools teams for this great news. Our schools and our students have been working exceptionally hard over the last few years.”
IPS says all four district run high schools exceeded the 90% graduation mark. Additionally, Black, Hispanic and multiracial IPS students graduated at higher rates than statewide peers.
Durr credited early intervention and monitoring of student progress. “I think our school teams work really hard to monitor student progress and to intervene early, starting their freshmen year. They have supports in place for students that might be struggling or might need extra help or might have things going on outside school.”
Durr says IPS grads had over 7,800 college credits and they earned 100 career pathway certificates which includes many in the medical field. “School teams work really hard to make sure that we are meeting the needs for our students and setting them up for success.”Statewide, the Department of Education says it’s seen unprecedented growth in third grade literacy and an improvement in frequent absenteeism.
