An investigation is underway after officials said a dead whale was found on the bow of a ship in Gloucester City, New Jersey. The Marine Mammal Stranding Center shared on social media that on Sunday, January 4, 2026, around 11:15 p.m., the U.S. Coast Guard Sector Delaware Bay reported a dead wha le caught on the bow of a ship at the marine terminal in Gloucester City. Officials reported that the whale has been tentatively identified as a Fin whale and is about 25 to 30 feet in length. However, identification will be confirmed once the animal is recovered and examined. On Monday, January 5, the Marine Mammal Stranding Center was on scene working to help remove the whale from the bow of the ship and towed the carcass to a nearby secure location.
