NBC 5, Telemundo 39, and the Denton Black Film Institute invite you to experience a dynamic lineup of films and other media at the 2026 Denton Black Film Festival from January 28 – February 1. This year’s theme is “Hope and Courage” which reflects the power of Hope to dream and envision what ’s possible, and the Courage to take action and bring those visions to life. The Denton Black Film Festival (DBFF) is a place where filmmakers, creatives, and the film-loving audience can gather for film screenings, filmmaker workshops, and panel discussions. The festival boasts an impressive collection of 95 amazing independent films and other offerings, making for rich content, more than ever before! The festival offers much more than film screenings. The DBFF’s signature experiences in music, comedy, spoken word, art, and more are sure to guarantee you an engrossing 5-day celebration.   Everyone is welcome to enjoy, learn, and honor Black culture through film, music, art, and storytelling. The DBFF is open to audiences of all ages and backgrounds. This diverse festival is also referred to as a hybrid festival since it goes beyond the in-person events and screenings and extends online, where you can enjoy the festival’s collection of films from the comfort of your home. The festival extends virtually February 1-8. There are different passes available to purchase to attend the festival. The VIP All Experience Pass, Film Only Experience Pass, Virtual Only Experience Pass, and the Five Block Film Pass each offer a different experience and access to films. The festival’s in person events will be held at various locations in and around the Denton area with most film screenings being held at the Alamo Drafthouse Cinema – Denton and some venues located near the historic Downtown Square.
