Richmond appoints new director of human resources

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) -- The city of Richmond has appointed a woman with more than 20 years of human resources (HR) leadership experience as its new director of HR.
On Monday, Jan. 5, the city announced that Trinija Martin has been chosen as the city's new director of HR after most recently serving
as deputy director of HR for Wake County, leading enterprise-wide people strategies.
“I believe deeply in the preeminence of character,” Martin said in a release. “Titles are rented, but character is owned. I am honored to serve the City of Richmond and look forward to partnering with leadership and employees to build a strong, equitable, and high-performing organization grounded in trust, accountability, and service to our community.”

According to the city, Martin has experience as an HR leader and military veteran whose career includes time working at Fortune 500 organizations, like E*trade Financial, and municipal and county governments.
She also served in an HR director role in the City of Waycross, Georgia.
"Continuously improving service delivery; overseeing the entire employee lifecycle from recruitment, hiring, and onboarding to training, compensation, and performance management; and legal compliance begins and ends with our employees," said Chief Administrative Officer Odie Donald II in a release. "Ms. Martin's record illuminates her passion for people and dedication to the communities she's served. I'm excited to have her people centered approach to government managing our City's workforce needs."
Martin's first day with the city will be on Monday, Jan. 12.
