49ers secure NFC's No. 6 playoff seed, will play Eagles on road in first round
Jan 04, 2026
Back on the road they go.
After failing to secure the NFC’s No. 1 playoff seed and home-field advantage throughout the playoffs with their 13-3 loss to the Seattle Seahawks on Saturday at Levi’s Stadium, the 49ers officially will be the conference’s No. 6 seed after the Los Angeles Rams’
37-20 win over the Arizona Cardinals on Sunday at SoFi Stadium.
San Francisco entered Week 18 of the 2025 NFL regular season with a chance to land either the first, fifth or sixth seeds, with the latter two depending solely on the outcome of the Rams-Cardinals game.
Now, instead of a first-round bye, the 49ers will travel to Lincoln Financial Field for a matchup against the No. 3-seeded Philadelphia Eagles after their 24-17 loss to the Washington Commanders on Sunday.
San Francisco and Philadelphia have developed sort of a rivalry in recent years as two of the NFC’s powerhouse teams. The 49ers famously beat up on the Eagles in a 42-19 rout in Week 13 of the 2023 NFL season, one year after Philadelphia defeated San Francisco in the NFC Championship Game when quarterback Brock Purdy left early in the contest with an elbow injury.
Super Bowl LX will be played at Levi’s Stadium on Feb. 8, which means the 49ers potentially will have to win up to three road playoff games in order to compete for the Vince Lombardi Trophy in their home stadium.
First up: the Eagles.
