Warmer temperatures return this week with rain chances later in the week

Sunshine and a Slow Warm-Up to Start the Week
We wrapped up the weekend on a bright note across central and southern Kentucky. After starting the day off cold, with morning temperatures in the 20s, plenty of sunshine helped temperatures rebound nicely into the 40s this afternoon. High pressure re
mains in control for now, keeping skies mostly clear and weather quiet as we head into the new workweek.
A Cold but Quiet Sunday Night Ahead
As we head into tonight, clear skies and light winds will allow temperatures to fall quickly once again. Most locations will drop into the upper 20s to low 30s overnight, with colder valleys dipping a bit lower than higher elevations. Clouds may increase briefly this evening, but they won’t stick around long enough to keep temperatures from falling.
Monday Brings a Big Temperature Jump
Monday is where the pattern really begins to change. Winds will shift out of the south during the morning hours, allowing warmer air to move back into the region. With sunshine returning and a light southwest breeze developing, temperatures will climb into the low to mid 50s for most areas, with a few southern communities pushing closer to 60 degrees. It will also feel a bit breezier compared to the calm conditions we’ve had recently, but overall it’s shaping up to be a pleasant and noticeably milder day.
Mild and Breezy Monday Night
Monday night stays on the mild side as southerly winds continue to pull warmer air northward. Clouds will gradually increase overnight, and temperatures will only fall into the upper 30s and low 40s — much warmer than recent nights. This sets the stage for a spring-like feel as we head into Tuesday.
Spotty Showers Possible Tuesday, Then Dry Again
Tuesday remains mild and breezy with highs warming into the upper 50s and even low 60s. Clouds will be more noticeable, and there is a low chance for a few isolated light showers Tuesday afternoon and evening. Any rain that does fall looks brief and light, with many areas staying dry. By Tuesday night into Wednesday, conditions trend drier again, and temperatures stay well above average for early January.
Unsettled Weather Returns Late Week
The quiet stretch doesn’t last forever. By Thursday, a more active weather pattern develops across the Ohio Valley. Multiple rounds of showers — and possibly thunderstorms — are expected from Thursday through Friday night as a series of weather systems moves through the region. Rainfall totals may add up to around an inch in some locations, and while widespread flooding isn’t expected, localized heavier downpours could cause minor issues. There is also a low-end potential for strong storms Friday, though confidence on severity remains low at this time.
