The Yankees continue their offseason with an addition to the team’s infield depth. Paul DeJong and the team agreed to a minor league, per New York Post’s Jon Heyman.  The move sends the 32-year old to the Bronx after spending the 2025 MLB season with the Washington Nationals. DeJong, who was li mited to 57 games in 2025 due to a fractured nose, slashed .228/.269/.373 with six home runs and 23 RBI. If he makes the big league squad, DeJong likely will be an infield depth piece for the Bombers’ major league squad in 2026. The nine-year veteran played shortstop, third base, second base and first base last season in Washington. DeJong’s experience at shortstop could land him some playing time at the position with Anthony Volpe expected to be out until May after undergoing left shoulder surgery. As it stands, the Yankees are likely to have Oswaldo Cabrera or Jose Caballero slated as the Opening Day shortstop. DeJong’s addition comes weeks after the Yankees re-signed utilityman Amed Rosario and right-handed pitcher Paul Blackburn.
