The application deadline for those interested in serving a partial term on the Park City Council is approaching fast. The submittals are due by 5 p.m. on Monday and need to be filed online. The opening is a result of Ryan Dickey’s mayoral win. He is slated to take office as the mayor on Mon day with nearly two years remaining on the City Council term he vacated in preparation for the swearing-in. An applicant must be a Park City resident and have lived inside the city for at least 12 straight months to be eligible for the appointment. Other requirements for eligibility include: Maintaining residency within the Park City limits during the City Council term. Being a registered voter in the Park City limits. Having not been declared to be mentally incompetent. Not being a convicted felon. Molly Miller, a Prospector resident who unsuccessfully competed in the City Council primary election in August, has filed an application. She has said the three key issues from her campaign — respect, action and community — remain important as she bids for the appointment. Miller’s application was the only one that had been filed by early in the afternoon on Friday. The mayor and remaining four members of the City Council are anticipated to hold a meeting on Jan. 9 to conduct interviews with the field, with the possibility of another meeting on Jan. 13 to finish interviews should the number of candidates require more time. The selection by the elected officials is expected on Jan. 15. The person is anticipated to be sworn into office quickly. The person who is selected will serve a term that ends in early 2028. They would need to win a full term in the City Hall election in 2027 to remain in office. The person will join the City Council at a crucial moment for the municipal government. The selection of a city manager is expected to be made early in the selected city councilor’s tenure, the preparations for the 2034 Winter Olympics are anticipated to accelerate, and decisions will be made about development concepts involving the municipal government. The application for the midterm appointment seeks basic information about a person’s platform and inquires about what they see that Park City is doing well and what can be improved. Other questions seek the applicant’s opinion of the municipal government’s role and opinion of the City Council’s role within the government. Applications are available on the City Hall website, parkcity.gov. The direct link to the information about the City Council vacancy is: parkcity.gov/government/election-information.
