California man charged in hitandrun that killed ebike rider in NJ

A California driver was arrested and charged in a hit-and-run crash that killed a man who was riding an electric bicycle in South Jersey.
Thair Maroki, 40, of El Cajon, California, is charged with vehicular homicide and leaving the scene of a fatal accident.
On Monday, Dec. 29, around 12:15 a.
m., police were called to the 1100 block of Route 73 South in Mount Laurel, New Jersey, for a report of unresponsive man on the shoulder of the road. The officers then found the body of Anthony Caprio III, 49, of Magnolia, New Jersey.
Investigators obtained surveillance video which showed a white 2002 Jeep Cherokee striking Caprio as he rode his e-bike. The Jeep Cherokee then fled the scene.
An alert was issued which included the California license plate number of the Jeep Cherokee. The hit-and-run vehicle was later located on Thursday, Jan. 1, 2026, by the Lyndhurst Police Department in Bergen County, New Jersey.
Police identified Maroki as the hit-and-run driver. He was taken into custody and transported to the Burlington County Jail in Mount Holly, New Jersey.
