Volunteers from various homeless assistance groups handed out tents, clothing and other supplies to several dozen unhoused people in San Jose. The advocates visited an area near a San Jose library and park on Tully Road. A homeless encampment used to near the area and it is a popular site for adv ocates to distribute supplies. Advocates said they have been confronted by police in the area in the past and visited Thursday to draw attention to Senate Bill 634, which is designed to protect outreach workers from being punished for providing basic survival items to the homeless.
