Mentor Public Library announced it is hosting a quintet of clubs for kids at its Main Branch with interests ranging from history to art to travel, and they’re all free to join. The Book-to-Movie Club, which is open to kids from ages 8 to 12, celebrates classic children’s books and the movies the y inspire. Each month, they read a section from the book, watch a snippet of the film, and enjoy related activities, according to a news release. January’s book is “The Bad Guys” by Aaron Blabey. Their next meeting is 4 p.m. on Jan. 5. The Fine Arts Club, which is open to kids from ages 7 to 12, uses history and hands-on experiences to explore different art forms and styles. The children in this culture club have tried everything from ballet to graffiti. In January, they’ll experiment with watercolor painting. Their next meeting is 4 p.m. Jan. 6. Next, the library’s Travel Club celebrates a different state each month. Every month, the children ages 6 to 12)enjoy crafts, activities and a snack inspired by a certain state.  In January, it’s California. They will also collect a pin from that state. The next meeting is at 4 p.m. Jan. 7. Mentor Public Library’s new The Story of America Club celebrates the nation’s history — just in time for the United States’ 250th birthday. Children ages 7 to 12 will explore a different chapter in the USA’s history each month with crafts, activities, and a snack that relates to that era, the release stated. The first meeting is 4 p.m. Jan. 8. Finally, the American Girl and America series explores 250 years of American history through the American Girl dolls. Each month, the club will celebrate a different American Girl and explore a different moment in American history. The programs are for children ages 8 to 12 and they are welcome to bring their dolls with them. In January, they’ll travel back to the Revolutionary War with Felicity and Elizabeth. All of these clubs are free to join, but due to limited space, registration is required.
