A 16-year-old boy was fatally shot outside the Moreno Valley Mall, but no suspects were immediately identified, authorities said on Wednesday, Dec. 31. The fatality occurred shortly before 8 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 30, in the immediate vicinity of the mall property, near Campus Parkway, according to the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department. The agency said patrol deputies were sent to the location to investigate reports of a firearm assault and discovered the youth, whose identity was not immediately released, suffering from a gunshot wound. First responders attempted life-saving measures, but the victim died at the scene. Sheriff’s detectives were working Wednesday to identify possible assailants and determine a motive. The agency asked that anyone with information about the shooting to to call detectives at 951-955-2777.
