(KRON) -- A man who strangled his young daughter to death in Redwood City while his wife was away at work is asking to be released from prison on parole, prosecutors said. Hardip Chand, 67, is scheduled to appear for a parole hearing in California State Prison at Solano Tuesday. His baby, named Va rsha, was beaten and strangled to death at home on January 22, 1995, the San Mateo County District Attorney's Office said. The father was 37 years old at the time of his daughter's violent death. After pleading no contest to second-degree murder, in the summer of 1996, Chand was sentenced by a San Mateo County Superior Court judge to serve 15 years to life in prison. 1 arrested for attempted murder at San Jose homeless encampment He has now served three decades behind bars. Tuesday marks Chand's fifth parole hearing.
