SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) -- Widespread rain showers are expected to begin across the Bay Area Wednesday and could last through the week, according to the National Weather Service. The weather service is advising residents to be prepared for "cool and wet weather" across the region for Wednesday night in to Thursday morning. Spare the Air alert issued for New Year’s Day The expected wet weather will bring an increased chance of flooding with a coastal flood advisory going into effect at 5 a.m. Wednesday and lasting through 2 p.m. Sunday. Tides are expected to peak on Friday and Saturday, according to the California King Tides Project. The San Francisco Department of Emergency Management is warning of up to 1.8 feet of coastal flooding as New Year's Eve approaches.
