(KRON) -- A ski patroller who was seriously injured in an avalanche at Mammoth Mountain on Friday morning has died, the resort confirmed on Sunday. A statement released by Murphy’s family said, “Serving on ski patrol wasn’t just a role for him--it was a calling.” The resort called Murphy “an experienced patroller with a deep passion for the mountains and love for his career.”

Their love was built on adventure, laughter, and a connection that ran deep,” family wrote. “Cole also held his family close, meeting life with an easy smile, a generous spirit, and a warmth that drew people in where he went.”
The other ski patroller that was injured in the avalanche suffered possible broken bones, the resort said Friday. Their condition is currently unknown.
Mammoth Mountain’s ski areas were closed Friday and Saturday after the area received heavy snowfall over several days. It reopened with limited operations on Sunday.
