Veteran comedian and actress Cocoa Brown is at the point in her career where she no longer has to push the envelope for laughs. “What is currently in my set is realizing at 53 years old — I’m now an official auntie,” said Brown, who will perform on Jan. 2 and 3 at Cleveland’s Funny Bone Co medy Club. “That’s how I’m addressed, and I embrace it, but there are so many people of my age group who don’t. “They’re trying to be young, and you look like fools,” she continues. “Women out here with the long lashes, knowing she has to wear some trifocals. And then men trying to dress like the young people. ‘Why are your pants sagging, sir? You can’t do that. Nobody wants to see your Depends.’” She also talks about dating in her 50s, which comes with its own set of problems. “I cannot for the life of me meet a man my age,” she laughed. “The only ones who want to date me are men I could’ve gave birth to. I’m running into youngsters who I think are just wanting a hot meal. They’re tired of Lunchables.” Northeast Ohio is the site of one of her most memorable onstage experiences. “One time when I was on stage in Cleveland, I did a wrong move and split my pants,” said Brown, calling from Fayetteville, Georgia. “That was interesting. I said, ‘Excuse me, y’all, this show just went from comedy to porn.’ So I just sat down, did the rest of my set and then literally backed off stage.” Self-deprecation aside, Brown, when not on stage, often can be found in front of a camera, with myriad film and TV credits over the past two decades. They include “A Very Merry Beauty Salon,” available on Netflix, and the upcoming feature film “You, Me Tuscany,” starring Halle Bailey and Regé-Jean Page. “I cannot for the life of me meet a man my age,” says comedian and actor Cocoa Brown. “The only ones who want to date me are men I could've gave birth to. I’m not gonna push the envelope anymore. Nope.” Cocoa Brown When: Jan. 2 and 3. Where: Funny Bone Comedy Club, 1148 Main Ave., Cleveland. Tickets: $24.
