Colorado College hockey adds Mats Lindgren to defense corps

This holiday season, Colorado College received the gift of a new defenseman.
On Saturday, CC coach Kris Mayotte announced the addition of Mats Lindgren to the team’s roster, effective immediately.
Lindgren comes with professional experience, having played 56 games for the Wheeling Nailer
s of the East Coast Hockey League and seven games for the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins of the American Hockey League in the 2024-2025 season. He scored 21 points (seven goals, 14 assists) with Wheeling.
“We are excited to add Mats to our program,” Mayotte said in a release. “We are adding a very good player and teammate. He is a strong skater with a history of offensive production. I know Mats is eager to get started and we are ready to get him up to speed as quickly as possible.”
Lindgren was selected by the Buffalo Sabres in the fourth round of the 2022 NHL Draft. His father, Mats, played seven seasons in the NHL, skating for the Edmonton Oilers, New York Islanders and the Vancouver Canucks. He scored 128 points (54 goals and 74 assists) in 387 career games. He was a member of Team Sweden at the 1998 Olympic Games.
CC lost a key blueliner in junior captain Max Burkholder to a lower-body injury in the team’s second weekend of the season. Burkholder is not expected to make a return to the ice this season.
The Tigers begin the second half of the 2025-2026 season at Augustana University on Jan. 2-3.
