Parkite luger Ashley Farquharson is picking up steam as the Olympics draw near.  The 26 year old won the first World Cup medal of her season last Saturday in the women’s singles competition at the Park City World Cup, finishing in third place. On Friday, she followed that up with the women’ s singles silver medal at the Lake Placid World Cup. Farquharson qualified for her second Games nomination from the U.S. Luge Team with her first World Cup medal of the season. She’ll look to continue solidifying her case for an official Olympic bid as the World Cup season wears on after Christmas. The next World Cup is Dec. 30-Jan. 4, 2026 in Sigulda, Latvia. Including the Sigulda World Cup, there will be four more World Cups before the Milan Games.  Farquharson’s total finish time on Friday was 1:28.956. She finished 0.132 seconds off the lead, held by Germany’s Julia Taubitz. Farquharson’s U.S. teammate Summer Britcher, who won the Park City women’s singles title last Saturday, rounded out the podium on Friday in third place.  “I freaking hope so!” Farquharson said to the International Luge Federation post-race about the potential to string together podium after podium. “The knowledge from how many runs I have down this track in how many different conditions I’ve slid on it in (helped).” The Lake Placid track is often one of the toughest in the world due to its turns, speed and the area’s often cold temperatures. Weather challenges on Friday led to the postponement of the men’s and women’s doubles races until Saturday. “Park City last week was built so hard,” she added. “And this one (track) is so notorious. I knew that as Americans we had an advantage.” Farquharson said that Team USA leaned into their home track advantage again. U.S. and international lugers said the week before that the crowd support in Park City was some of the best they’d ever seen.  “It’s a ton of fun racing,” Britcher said on Friday. “You can hear the crowd over there. I have a ton of people here cheering me on; we all do.” Britcher said racing in Lake Placid was “magical.” She knew her fans would support her regardless of her result, which freed her up to race.  Team USA’s Marcus Mueller and Ansel Haugsjaa topped the men’s doubles podium on Saturday with a total time of 1:27.509. Chevonne Forgan and Sophia Kirkby won the women’s doubles bronze medal on Saturday with a total time of 1:29.119.  “I feel amazing,” Mueller said on Saturday. “It’s so good to be home and do it on the home track.” Mueller said he and Haugsjaa still have areas to improve on as a team, but that they’re going to enjoy the win. Mueller, Haugsjaa and the rest of the field will have another opportunity to show their skills at the Sigulda World Cup, which will feature men’s and women’s singles and doubles, as well as additional action. The Sigulda World Cup can be live streamed on the International Luge Federation’s Youtube Channel.
