City sanitation crews are getting ready to hit the streets to prepare roads for the storm that could bring 8 inches of snow to the five boroughs and parts of the tri-state area. (Photo: NBC New York) At Midnight Friday, crews will begin putting down gallons of liquid salt across New York City streets to prevent the snow from accumulating before it even starts falling, once the first flakes come down Friday evening. Hundreds of salt spreaders will head out once there is two inches of snow on the ground. The city is also issuing a travel advisory starting Friday evening, asking people to rethink their post-holiday plans if they include driving anywhere in the area. “If there are things you have to do go somewhere, try to do it early so you can get off the roads before the snowfall starts,” DSNY Deputy Commissioner Joshua Goodman told NBC New York. “Just dont forget we do the streets, but sidewalks are the responsibility of the property owner. Gotta think about the neighbor, the senior citizen who needs to get home,” he said.
