CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- A Chester family experiencing homelessness said they are incredibly thankful to 8News viewers for making a difference in their holiday season.
Earlier in December, Kristin Walker and her family spoke to 8News, sharing that they had no stable place to call "home" f
or the holidays.
The last couple of months have been difficult for the Walkers after they lost their home and one source of income. Some nights, the Walkers resorted to sleeping in their car.
After the first story aired, 8News viewers called and emailed asking how to help the Walkers, and their generosity has helped make their Christmas merry and bright. Faith groups, such as the New Deliverance Evangelistic Church and other congregations, also helped provide resources and meals.
"That alone has been bringing my spirits up and giving me more hope," Kristin Walker said. "I've had people reach out to make sure that my children had coats, got some presents. We've had a person donate a tree — a Christmas tree for us."
Walker's young kids smiled as they watched the strangers' act of gift-giving. From all the living arrangements and housing uncertainties over the last several months, Walker said it's a blessing to watch others share for the season.
"I definitely wanted to say 'thanks' to all the support that we have — even if I couldn't name them out on here. I just wanted to say 'thank you' from my family," Walker said.
The Walkers are still finding their permanent housing, but they said they're able to rest easy this Christmas, thanks to 8News viewers.
