A Connecticut man is accused of hiding in his ex-wife’s car, attempting to shoot her and then making a run for the Canadian border before being nabbed by police. The Bridgeport Police Department said 33-year-old Joao Victor Borges De Queiroz hid in the trunk of his ex-wife’s vehicle, then pushed down the back seat and fired a shot at his intended victim as she was driving to work on Tuesday. “The bullet went through the front windshield, narrowly missing his ex-wife, who is also 33 years old,” cops posted on Facebook Wednesday afternoon. After the gunshot failed to strike the woman, the suspect allegedly choked her from behind as she attempted to drive to safety. She was “eventually able to disarm her ex-husband and throw the gun out of the window,” police said. Cops claim Borges De Queiroz continued assaulting the woman as she “fought her way out” of the car at the intersection of Orange St. and Central Ave. She then ran to a nearby residence and was able to call for help. Responding officers recovered the gun as well as video evidence of the encounter, much of which was recorded. Less than 24 hours later, Borges De Queiroz was stopped by Canadian cops near the border with Vermont and handed over to U.S. Border Patrol, who took him into custody on a warrant issued by Bridgeport police. Charges against the suspect include attempted murder, stalking, assault and first-degree kidnapping with a firearm. He will also face a charge for carrying a pistol without a permit. Borges De Queiroz was being held by police in Vermont before he’s extradited back to Connecticut for arraignment. His bond was set at $1 million. ...read more read less
