INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — The Colts lost to the 49ers, 48-27. The loss drops the Colts to 8-7, and marks their fifth straight loss. The Colts defense got gashed by the 49ers. The 49ers never punted and racked up 440 yards. The 49ers scored on seven of their nine drives and tacked on a pic k six as well. “We’ve got to be better,” Colts head coach Shane Steichen said. “That starts with me. Got to be better. Bottom line, we can’t give up that many yards. They scored a lot of points, went up and down the field. We’ve got to get that cleaned up in a hurry. Our defense played great last week, and then this week, we’ve got to be better. It starts with me, bottom line.” “We got dominated today,” Colts linebacker Zaire Franklin said. “It’s really nothing else to talk about. Credit to San Fran. I felt like they came in and they did what they wanted.” 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy threw for five touchdowns, a career best for him. 49ers running back Christian McCaffrey had two total touchdowns and 117 rushing yards. Colts quarterback Philip Rivers was 23-for-35 passing for 277 yards, two touchdowns, and one interception in his second game back with the team. “I thought he played really good,” Steichen said. “I think he just had the one play at the end. But I thought he was on fire all game. He managed the offense at the line of scrimmage, did some no huddle stuff with them, getting us down to the right plays, threw it to the right spots every time. Obviously, just had the one play there at the end. But overall, I thought he was really solid.” Jonathan Taylor had 16 carries for 46 yards and a touchdown. Alec Pierce led the Colts in receiving with four catches for 86 yards and two touchdowns. The Colts now must win both of their last two games and need the Houston Texans to lose their last two games to have a shot at the playoffs. “We just got to find a way to dig deep and find a way to win a football game,” Rivers said. “We can’t worry about all the scenarios and all the things out there. I know they’re all out there. I know what they are. But we got to find a way to win a football game or none of the scenarios come into play.” Next up for the Colts is a matchup with the Jacksonville Jaguars on Sunday. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m. at Lucas Oil Stadium. ...read more read less
