The body has been identified as 30-year-old Jerica Hamre of Lincoln, who had not been seen or heard from since June 25, 2024 at her home near 35th and Huntington. She was reported missing on July 3, 2024. On Monday, Lincoln Police Captain Ben Miller said Hamre’s body was found on a farm north of Oxford, about 160 miles or two hours, 45 minutes west/southwest of Lincoln. A man working in a field was inspecting the property in preparation for sale and found her body in an outbuilding. “Our heart breaks for Jerica’s family and friends who for the last 18 months have been searching for answers,” Miller said. The Nebraska State Patrol said it was apparent Hamre had been dead for some time. An autopsy was conducted Friday and the remains were confirmed to be those of Hamre. Miller said authorities are working with experts to narrow down an exact time frame of when she died. At this time, Hamre’s death is being investigated as a homicide. Miller said a person of interest is in custody on unrelated charges and there is no ongoing threat to the public. LPD will provide additional information once charges are brought forward for the person in custody. Information led investigators to a property near Overton in October 2024, and several agencies searched the area, but no evidence related to Hamre was found. “The effort of searching over a thousand square miles of timber, lakes, rivers and farmland was daunting and never ended as the commitment to find her was unwavering,” Miller said. Jerica’s parents have been raising Jerica’s daughters since her disappearance. Anyone with information that could assist investigators is encouraged to call LPD at 402-441-6000, or to remain anonymous, call Crime Stoppers at 402-475-3600, or report online at lincolncrimestoppers.com, or download the free P3 app. The Nebraska State Patrol, Furnas County Sheriff’s Office, Lancaster County Attorney’s Office, Furnas County Attorney’s Office and Nebraska Attorney General’s Office are all working together with this investigation.
