The 2026 analysis was based on 28 metrics in two categories: economic well-being and health and safety. The economic well-being metrics included child and adult poverty rates, unemployment and underemployment rates, and the share of children eligible for free or reduced-price lunch. The health and s afety metrics included the percentage of residents without health insurance, the food insecurity rate, and the share of homes with inadequate plumbing.
