(KRON) -- A swimmer was reported missing at Lovers Point Beach on Sunday in Monterey County, a United States Coast Guard official tells KRON4. USCG was informed about a missing person around 12:13 p.m. The missing person is part of a swim group that was in the water at the beach in Pacific Grove. The missing person report led to the closure of Lovers Point Beach, along with all other beaches within a one-mile radius, according to Pacific Grove city officials. The beach will remain closed until Tuesday, Dec. 23. Two witnesses stated the now-missing swimmer encountered a shark, according to a joint statement from USCG, Pacific Grove police and Monterey Fire Department. As of 8 p.m. on Sunday, the swimmer remains missing. Search efforts will resume in the morning. The Monterey County Sheriff's Office will assist in the search.
