Nearly 15K customers still without power in San Francisco after major outage

SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) — About 15,000 customers are still without electricity in San Francisco Sunday following a widespread outage Saturday afternoon, which initially cut power to 130,000 customers throughout the city.
The lingering outage is primarily affecting customers in the Presidio, the Rich
mond District, Golden Gate Park and a section of the Tenderloin.
The outage was caused by a fire at a substation at 8th and Mission Streets, PGE told KRON4 News. Power has since been restored to more than 100,000 customers.
Massive power outage in SF leaves thousands without electricity
PGE expects to restore power to all remaining customers impacted by the substation outage by no later than 2 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 22, according to a social media post from the company.
“The damage from the fire in our substation was significant and extensive, and the repairs and safe restoration will be complex,” a PGE spokesperson told KRON4 News. “Cause is still being investigated. At this time, we are unable to provide a precise timeframe for full restoration but will provide additional detail and information as our assessment and repair efforts continue.”
Due to the power outage, several city facilities will be closed for in-person services on Monday, Dec. 22, the City and County of San Francisco wrote in a social media post on Sunday. The facilities include:
San Francisco City Hall
San Francisco Main Library
Civic Center Garage
SFMTA customer service on 11 South Van Ness Ave.
City and County of San Francisco Department of Human Resources at 1 South Van Ness Ave.
Department of Public Health at 101 Grove St.
San Francisco Public Utilities Commission at 525 Golden Gate Ave.
