RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) -- The Central Virginia Waste Management Authority (CVWMA) will be accepting Christmas trees for recycling after the holiday season. The CVWMA announced on Friday, Dec. 19, that many of their locations will be accepting Christmas trees for free to residents of various districts in an attempt to help people "go green." A list of sites to drop off a tree is posted on their website. The CVWMA will only be accepting residents of their respective district. All lights, ornaments, tinsel and stands must be removed from the tree before donating it. Henrico County offers free Christmas tree recycling for residents Once the trees are recycled, they will be chipped into a mulch-type product and used in areas for landscaping. The CVWMA also said that real Christmas trees may be placed outside of wildlife habitats. Any Richmonder who wants to recycle their tree can also bring it to the "Bring One for the Chipper" event on Saturday, Jan. 10, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., located at 1710 Robin Hood Road. The city said they will be accepting real Christmas trees, personal documents and electronics for recycling.
