Governor Boy’s split two on home opening weekend
Dec 21, 2025
The Pierre Governor boys basketball team had mixed results in their first two home games of the season this weekend. The Govs began the weekend with a 61-50 win over Sturgis Friday in a balanced scoring effort. Three players led the way as Logan Witte and Corde Austin each scored 17, while Cooper Te
rwilliger added 16 points and 10 rebounds in the win. Pierre broke a 17-all tied in the second period to lead 36-29 at the half and they never trailed again. Hayden Rock led the Scoopers with 18 points. The Governors, however, struggled mightily Saturday afternoon, as they dropped a 60-35 setback to Spearfish. The Spartans raced out to a 21-3 after one quarter as the Govs went without a field goal during that stretch. Pierre clawed back to within 10 at 33-23 in the third quarter, but the Spartans hit four treys to extend the gap and cruise to their third win in as many games to start the season. Kamren Davis led a balanced attack with 14 point for Spearfish while Austin had 12 and Jerren Deal 10 for the Governors. Pierre is now 2-2 on the season and will be in action next on Jan. 3 when they head to Bismarck to dance with the Demons.
