Nearly three million Hoosiers expected to travel for holidays
INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – Millions of Hoosiers are expected to join a record level of year-end holiday travel over the coming days.
AAA projects 122.4 million Americans will travel more than 50 miles this year during the 13-day per
iod from Dec. 20 through Jan. 1, including 2.9 million people from Indiana. About 2.6 million of those Hoosiers will travel by car, according to AAA.
Using data from transportation analytics company INRIX, AAA says the worst times to drive on the Monday and Tuesday before Christmas (Dec. 22 23) will be 1 p.m. – 7 p.m. The best time to avoid heavy traffic will be before 10 a.m.
Christmas Eve and Christmas Day (Dec. 24 25) are expected to see minimal traffic.

The Indianapolis Department of Transportation (INDOT) said the Hoosier Helper Safety Service Patrol will be out providing traffic control, minor medical care at crash sites, and limited roadside assistance. Drivers can contact a Hoosier Helper through INDOT at 855-INDOT4U (463-6848).
