Fairport Harbor Village Councilman Frank Sarosy has been honored for his strong dedication to public service.

Village Council, at its Dec. 16 meeting, approved a resolution to commend Sarosy, who will conclude his term on the panel at the end of the year.
The document states
that Sarosy “has demonstrated unwavering commitment to public service and leadership throughout his distinguished career.”
Council praised Sarosy during what was likely to be his last meeting as a member of the group. Sarosy, who is wrapping up his third consecutive four-year term on council, chose not to run in the Nov. 4 General Election.
During his 12-year stretch on council, Sarosy “has provided thoughtful guidance, fiscal responsibility and steadfast advocacy for village residents,” the resolution stated.
He also previously served as village mayor for 12 years. Current Mayor Tim Manross estimated that Sarosy “has been involved with public service probably for the better part of 30, maybe 40 years.”
Sarosy replied that he’s racked up 34 years of public service. He’s been a member of Fairport Harbor School Board, Lake County Joint Vocational School Board, and the panels that govern Lake County Alcohol, Drug Addiction and Mental Health Services and Laketran.
The resolution stated that council “expresses its deepest appreciation for (Sarosy’s) enduring contributions to the betterment of the village and the broader community.”
During the Dec. 16 meeting, Manross said it was honor to serve with Sarosy.
“We’re certainly going to miss you,” the mayor said. “We’re going to miss teasing you as much as we do. But we also will miss your wisdom and your guidance. And thank you for your service to the village.”
Village Solicitor Jim Lyons said he’s worked as a governmental colleague of Sarosy for about 20 years.
“I’m going to miss you on council and I’m just going to miss seeing you here and talking about some old times,” Lyons said. “So good luck, and hopefully we’ll keep running into each other. And it’s been great fortune for me to be around you all these years.”
As of Jan. 1, Sarosy’s council position will be filled by Verne Horton, who won one of four seats on the panel in the November election.
Horton previously served on council and as village administrator. Voters on Nov. 4 elected Horton and re-elected incumbent council members Jerry Hites, Jeff McKinney and Elisabeth Shaver.
A total of six candidates competed in this year’s Fairport Harbor Village Council race.
