Man arrested hours after police standoff at SF’s Palace Hotel

SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) — A man has been taken into custody several hours after the San Francisco Police Department shut down a block of Market Street in response to an ongoing standoff with a suspect at the Palace Hotel at 2 New Montgomery St.

ed inside the hotel at 11:57 a.m., San Francisco Fire Department Lt. Mariano Elias told KRON News.
“Officers responded to the scene and located a possible suspect in the building,” SFPD said. “The suspect has refused to comply [with] officers’ commands to exit.”

The hotel has been partially evacuated. There are no known injuries at this time.
Crisis negotiators are at the hotel “attempting to obtain a peaceful resolution,” SFPD said.
At 9:25 p.m., San Francisco police confirmed to KRON4 that a man was arrested in connection with the incident but said they are not confirming his identity or charges at this time.
Police are asking the public to avoid Market Street between Annie Street and New Montgomery Street. The Montgomery BART station was temporarily closed due to the standoff but has since reopened.
