Two people were killed and three others injured in a fire in Murrieta on Saturday morning, authorities said. Fire crews just before 4:45 a.m. responded to reports of a residential fire in the 41000 block of Knight Drive, according to a Murrieta Fire and Rescue statement. The crews arrived to find a mobile home, carport, three vehicles, two outbuildings and a large pine tree all ablaze, according to the statement. Firefighters initially attempted to search the structure for trapped residents, but due to concerns about the integrity of the building switched to a defensive stance until they could bring the blaze under control within around 45 minutes, according to the release. Authorities believe there were five people in the structure when the fire broke out. Two were found dead in the structure, while three more were taken to a hospital. Multiple pets also died in the fire, authorities said, though they did not specify what type of animals they were. Authorities have not released the names of those who died in the fire. The fire department is working with the Murrieta police department to determine the cause of the fire and exactly where it began.
