Dec 19, 2025
SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) -- Light to moderate rain began falling in the North Bay Friday afternoon as the Bay Area braces for a days-long atmospheric river-driven storm. The storm is expected to bring heavy rain, strong winds and potentially impact the busy holiday travel season.
Light rainfall is expe
cted to fall Friday into Saturday morning with a much wetter pattern around the corner, according to the National Weather Service. With Christmas just days away, the NWS advises that a series of storms is poised to impact the Bay Area through next week.
Holiday travel impacts: Atmospheric river could cause flooding, landslides, power outages
Over the next week, much of the Bay Area could receive between 5 to 10 inches of rain, with higher amounts in the coastal mountains. Should these totals materialize, the rainfall could amount to nearly 25% of the area's average yearly precipitation.
