A 1,600-acre fire in a training area of Fort Carson ignited on Friday, a base official told The Gazette. The fire began hours before the National Weather Service in Pueblo issued its second red flag warning of the day for El Paso, Pueblo and Teller counties from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. The Weather S ervice is warning of fires that “will catch and spread rapidly and erratically” with strong westerly winds and low humidity. As a precaution, the Stratmoor and Hanover fire departments have responded to aid Fort Carson firefighters, according to the base official. There are no reported injuries and no buildings are being threatened by the fire. The official did not say when the fire began. Smoke from the fire could be seen from Colorado Springs on Friday afternoon.
