Colorado Springs Airport sees major delays as high winds disrupt Denver flights

At least 20 flights to and from the Colorado Springs Airport have been delayed as 85-105 mph wind gusts ravage the Denver area, officials said.

More than 300 flights at DIA had been delayed as of 9:30 a.m., and 11 had been canceled, according to flightaware.com. In Colorado Springs, the city reported late in the morning that all of the departures to and arrivals from Denver have been delayed.
Colorado Springs Airport spokeswoman Amanda Rantis said there are 25 aircraft at the airport that were diverted. A Gazette reporter saw the planes stacked along the airport’s runway earlier Friday morning.
Rantis said early Christmas festivities still happened at the airport, with Colorado Springs Mayor Yemi Mobolade showing up alongside Santa and Mrs. Claus to great travelers with hot chocolate and holiday cheer.
